Backpacking at Castle Rock—May, 2009

This was the first backpacking trip of the Sierra Club backpacking class that Lori and I are taking. It was a wet, soggy, and fun weekend at Castle Rock State Park.

Since it was still raining when we gathered in the parking lot, everyone put on their full regalia of duct tape, jackets, and trash bags to keep the legs, torso, and backpacks dry.

But the rain eased on the hike out so that we were able to set up camp and eat in comfort. However, during the night the rain settled in so that packing the next morning was a mess. As you'll see in the group shot at Goat Rock, we looked like drowned rats before we escaped for a warm shower.
